This afternoon the US Coast Guard flew by the hospital, but I did not see them land. Just a few minutes later however, approximately 3:10 this afternoon the Aeromed chopper set down atop the new helipad on top of Spectrum Hospital in downtown Grand Rapids, MI.
It has been landing and taking off immediately for several weeks now, but this time it landed, shut down and stayed atop the hospital. A flight crew appears to be taking a number of pictures atop the hospital and people are walking around on the rooftop pad. The helicopter stayed about an hour staring again at 4:05 p.m.
I have not seen any traditional news coverage other than one story showing off the deck (does not ironically contain current pictures as the tower is no longer atop the elevator shafts atop the hospital). The new deck is a pretty red with a white cross and must be much easier to spot on an incoming flight.
Despite the lack of media coverage, I have to believe that the picture taking indicates that flights will resume again with rooftop landings on the hospital, perhaps as early as today.
