A medical helicopter crashed in downtown Grand Rapids MI today atop Butterworth Spectrum Hospital. It erupted into flames. Preliminary reports are that it was an Aeromed craft. Flames were clearly fueled and smoke billowed. They are now evacuating the three upper floors of the hospital due to concerns about fuel leaking.
It appears that there are four deep gouges in the side of the building suggesting that the rotors struck the side of the building.
There is no word at this time if anyone was able to survive the crash, but it was allegedly only moments from the crash until flames erupted. I saw the first eruption of flames, but did not actually see the copter crash.
